All female members of St. John's Lutheran Church are automatically included in the Ladies Guild, an integral part of the church community.
The Ladies Guild convenes monthly to deliberate on matters concerning the church and the various missions they actively support.
Throughout the year, the Ladies Guild organizes three fundraising events: the Treasure Sale in spring, the Cookie Walk and White Elephant Sale in fall. The proceeds from these events are directed towards funding diverse missions and initiatives deemed beneficial for the church.
Additionally, the Ladies Guild takes charge of organizing and hosting funeral dinner hospitality, providing comfort and support during times of bereavement within the church family.
Sewing Circle
This group gathers every Monday morning at 9 am throughout the fall, winter, and spring seasons. They engage in the creation of quilts using primarily donated materials. The process involves cutting blocks, sewing them together, placing them on a frame with backing and center filling, and securing them with crochet yarn. The finishing touches include machine-binding the edges to complete each quilt.
Annually, approximately 100 quilts are crafted and sent to Lutheran World Relief for distribution worldwide. Additionally, some quilts and lap blankets are distributed locally to support elderly individuals, veterans, children, and others in need.
The tasks involved are straightforward and can be performed at home, making this a welcoming opportunity for all skill levels. No prior experience is necessary, and anyone interested is encouraged to drop in, participate, and learn more about ongoing projects.
Funeral Dinner Hospitality
Funeral dinners serve as a crucial ministry within our community, providing a meaningful gathering for grieving families and friends to come together, share fellowship, and cherish memories. These occasions also offer an opportunity for individuals less familiar with the congregation to forge new connections and find support.
Organized by our dedicated Guild, these luncheons or dinners are tailored to meet the preferences of each bereaved family. It's a ministry where members of our congregation volunteer their time and effort to prepare food and serve those attending, extending comfort and compassion during times of loss. This act of service embodies our commitment to caring for one another and nurturing a supportive community environment.
Lutheran Women’s Missionary League
The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) serves as the official women’s auxiliary of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, dedicated to fostering a deepened relationship with Christ among women. With a legacy spanning over 75 years, LWML empowers women to actively live out their Christian faith through mission ministries and support for global missions.
Central to LWML's mission is assisting every woman within The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod in nurturing her relationship with the Triune God. This empowerment enables women to utilize their God-given gifts in diverse ministries that serve people worldwide.
Mite Boxes play a pivotal role in supporting these missions by collecting contributions quarterly for mission grants. These grants are crucial in advancing God's kingdom both locally and globally. Projects for these grants are selected by delegates at district and national conventions. Twenty-five percent of the mite offerings are allocated to LWML for national and international mission grants, while the remaining seventy-five percent supports mission projects within the Michigan district. This funding structure ensures that LWML continues to make a significant impact in spreading the Gospel and meeting humanitarian needs worldwide.
